In early 2021, the partnership between Swiss Super League club FC Zürich and collectID was kicked off. It all started with a small batch of game-worn jerseys, gradually expanding the collaboration scope and equipping more FCZ merchandise with the collectID technology, allowing more fans to benefit from the smart jersey.

For the second half of the 2020/21 season, each matchday, the game-worn jersey of FCZ’s “Player of the match” had been equipped with the collectID technology, before being auctioned off. With the corresponding digital product passport that takes the form of an NFT, the game-worn jersey was transformed into a smart jersey. That is to say, the uniqueness of the game-worn jersey was immutably stored on the blockchain, and the owner of the smart jersey is able to prove its authenticity within seconds, should the jersey ever be auctioned or resold again.

In the following season, the history-charged Swiss club celebrated its 125 year anniversary. For that purpose, the club came up with a commemorative design on a warm-up jersey featuring FCZ’s biggest icons throughout the club’s rich history. With the implementation of the collectID solution, owners of the jersey were given access to the official FCZ documentary movie “Nie usenand gah” two weeks prior to its airing on TV and other exclusive content recapitulating 125 years of history. Further, fans were provided with an exclusive discount code on their next FCZ merchandise purchase. That season, the FCZ squad went on a remarkable run and secured the Swiss championship for the first time in 13 years.

For the 2022/23 season, the partnership between FC Zürich and collectID has been extended once again, now entering its third season. Not only will there be a limited championship jersey featuring collectID technology, all home and away jerseys will be equipped and transformed into a direct communication channel, offering more fans the opportunity to benefit from the closer connection to their favorite club.
